I Sing a Song of Obama
“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.” — Walt Whitman “Song of Myself”
The best use of a line from a Walt Whitman poem in comparison of Barack Obama goes to Slate’s John Dickerson.
“Barack Obama is America. He contains multitudes.”
This was said in response to Obama’s now famous “A More Perfect Union” speech. I can’t think of a more perfect reference for Obama, whether that be positive or negative. Everything about the candidate is a complexity in the extreme.
