“Does this skirt make my ass look humiliated?”

There’s been a lot of talk about the scandal revolving around now former governor Elliot Spitzer and an international prostitution ring. I’ve now heard speculation on how this will effect Hillary Clinton because Spizter was publicly backing her. I’ve also heard speculation on how it will effect Obama with female voters. I heard one pundit question how women voters would react and whether this would make them trust a male candidate less. Which is, by far, the most stupid thing I’ve heard all day. And I listened to Pat Buchanan right after so that’s really saying something.

But it seems I’ve heard the most criticism on his wife, Silda Spitzer. I’ve read several essays on the art of making a public apology and the wife’s role in her husband’s public humiliation. I’ve recalled my own mother blaming Hillary Clinton (somehow) during the Lewinsky scandal. I even saw Samantha Bee make a nice spoof of the criticism on The Daily Show.

“Does this skirt make my ass look humiliated?” Yeah, it kinda does.

And it would be so very easy to criticize this woman standing beside her husband after he’s humiliated himself and her. It would be easy to say that there’s no way we would make the same stand in the same situation. It’d probably be easier to say we’d slap the man in the face and leave.

But truthfully, it’s not so easy to judge someone’s private life when a shaky spotlight is thrust upon them so forcefully. Judging him is such an open and shut case that like a dog with a bone we have no problem going to the meatier part of the story. How can that intelligent and well-educated woman who gave up the professional part of her life for him stand by her husband like so much arm candy?

And so some poor woman who had the gall to trust her own husband gets ripped apart from a bunch of savages like Dr. Laura.

  1. Dr. Laura is a cunt.
    Pardon my French.

  2. No she really is. Also, that word is the only appropriate word to describe her. Look it up in the dictionary.

  3. I wouldn’t rely on sensationalistic second-hand accounts. Did you actually see the video? The whole video? Did you watch and listen carefully? Dr. Laura was not excusing Spitzer, who is probably a malignant narcissist.

She was talking about “in general” – Dr. Laura says that ***IF*** you choose a GOOD man ***AND*** you treat him right, he will not stray. Nowhere does she excuse men for their decisions to commit adultery. However, she recognizes that if a wife isn’t living by her marital vows (which are more than just “forsaking all others”), THEN a man is more likely not to live by his, either.

You don’t have to like her or agree with her, but is it a good idea to spread false witness?
